Liberal values? The party of Menzies should try practising what it preaches

What are Liberal values? The party has a short statement on its website that sets out its ‘beliefs’. There are some fine phrases, but how did Liberals honour their beliefs when they got into government? Have a look. They say:

We believe in the inalienable rights and freedoms of all peoples.

What a joke. Sure they believe in the inalienable rights and freedoms of all people, just not in the right of unvaccinated Australians to leave the country during most of the pandemic or to hold a job.

We work towards a lean government that minimises interference in our daily lives; and maximises individual and private sector initiative.

They supported lean government by letting the nation’s debt balloon to $1 trillion.

They minimised interference in our daily lives by allowing employers, even state governments, to mandate Covid vaccines that never stopped transmission and for far too many resulted in injury and death.

[We believe] in government that nurtures and encourages its citizens through incentive, rather than putting limits on people through the punishing disincentives of burdensome taxes and the stifling structures of Labor’s corporate state and bureaucratic red tape.

They cut some taxes but introduced sneaky invisible subsidies for renewables that dramatically pushed up the price of energy driving companies broke or offshore. They left most of Labor’s red tape in place and punished farmers with additional green tape.

[We believe] In those most basic freedoms of parliamentary democracy – the freedom of thought, worship, speech and association.

They supported freedom of speech by secretly colluding with Big Tech to censor Australians on social media.

They supported freedom of religion by doing nothing to protect Christians, even when they were sacked from their jobs just because they quoted the Bible or attended church.

They support parliamentary democracy by colluding to protect the two-party system.

[We believe] in a just and humane society in which the importance of the family and the role of law and justice is maintained.

Yet a Liberal Prime Minister publicly apologised for an alleged crime that was never proved in a court of law, denying the presumption of innocence to a junior Liberal staffer and allowing the reputation of his minister to be unfairly sullied in the court of public opinion.

[We believe] in equal opportunity for all Australians; and the encouragement and facilitation of wealth so that all may enjoy the highest possible standards of living, health, education and social justice.

Yet some Liberals are supporting equal opportunity for all Australians by endorsing a racist Voice to Parliament and the Liberals in government allowed billions of dollars to be wasted on ‘closing the gap’ without auditing why so much money delivered so little.

[We believe] that, wherever possible, government should not compete with an efficient private sector; and that businesses and individuals – not government – are the true creators of wealth and employment.

Yet they set up the National Broadband Network and embarked on Snowy pumped hydro, two of the most expensive and useless white elephants in our history.

[We believe] in preserving Australia’s natural beauty and the environment for future generations.

Yet they introduced subsidies and targets for unreliable energy. Result? Thousands of trees are being hacked down to erect wind turbines even right next to our most precious and unique World Heritage-protected forests.

Vast tracts of prime agricultural land are being covered in inefficient solar panels that will end up in landfill and are extremely resource-intensive to manufacture.

Huge new transmission lines will have to be built in regional Australia ruining the landscape and peace of the countryside to get this unreliable energy to our cities.

This unreliable energy has to be backed up by fossil fuels anyway because there is no battery big enough to back up the grid for days or weeks in a wind drought.

[We believe] that our nation has a constructive role to play in maintaining world peace and democracy through alliance with other free nations.

Yet they chopped and changed between conventional and nuclear submarines and came up with a plan that leaves us unprepared in an increasingly menacing world for the next 20 years.

In short, we simply believe in individual freedom and enterprise; and if you share this belief, then ours is the Party for you.

They supported individual freedom and free enterprise by sending thousands of small businesses broke while allowing big corporates to operate and thrive.

No wonder the Liberals were abandoned by the voters at the last election. They betrayed their values. They forgot about the forgotten people. They are nothing but a caricature of true Liberals.
