Just when you thought that Target in the US could not get any worse, it turns out that its Pride range, featuring tuck-friendly underpants and infant onesies proclaiming, ‘Just be you and feel the love’, are just the tip of the iceberg.
It has come to light that Target has been funding the NDN Collective, which bills itself as an “Indigenous-led organization dedicated to building Indigenous power.’ This organisation is so radical that it makes Black Lives Matter look like a 1950s branch meeting of the Country Women’s Association.
As you would expect, the Not for Profit is going about building Indigenous power by tearing everything down, starting with Mount Rushmore, which it believes should not exist given that it depicts white supremacists, was created by white supremacists for white supremacists, and is on land stolen by white supremacists. No wonder they want to tear it down.
Speaking of land, the NDN Collective would also like everyone to give their land back to the Indigenous people. In a bizarre paper entitled ‘the Right of Return is Landback’ the author opines that ‘Much like the early colonizers of the americas who saw how Indigenous Peoples coexisted and thrived on the land, so too did the British colonizers who claimed Palestine as theirs under a “Mandate” in 1916.’ The anti-Israel stance is of course consistent with the anti-Semitism of the progressives.
And in echoes of the Defund the Police movement, the folk at the NDN Collective feel that US military should be demilitarized because it’s used as ‘pathway for exploitation and destruction of Indigenous communities within the so-called United States.’ Never mind national security.
A perusal of the staff pages is enlightening. Virtue signalling and pronouns abound. The President & CEO describes himself as Nick Tilsen (he/him) and as ‘a citizen of the Oglala Lakota Nation’. The Foundation Manager Gaby Strong is ‘(she/her)’ and is ‘an enrolled citizen of the Sisseton-Wahpeton/Mdewakanton Dakota Oyate.’
Finally, we have Edgar Villanueva. Edgar is ‘an enrolled member of the Lumbee Nation’ and has an extremely important role to play in the organisation as ‘Founder and principal of Decolonizing Wealth and Liberated Capital’. It seems that he is very good indeed at liberating other people’s capital. According to the website, between 2023 and 2028, it will be dishing out nearly $50 million to ‘Native individuals’ and families across Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. How much of this comes from Target, we’ll never know, but the fact that Americans have been inadvertently funding an organisation which hates them, and hates America, is appalling.
