Biden: the merchant of hypocrisy

It seems to be a scientific law, like gravity, that whatever trespasses the US Democrats accuse the Republicans of, it will quickly transpire that they have done the same thing, but worse…

The current saga regarding the discovery of various stashes of classified materials in Biden’s former Washington office of the Penn Biden Think Tank and in his Delaware garage, is a perfect example of this behaviour. This is funny as Biden, his party, and the legacy media vociferously condemned Trump for keeping classified documents in his Mar-A-Lago residence.

Not only does this put an embarrassing roadblock in front of the Department of Justice’s plans to indict Trump for possessing classified documents, Biden’s infringement is in many ways worse than Trump’s.

Firstly, the classified documents, some with Top Secret classification, were found in multiple places, including being casually stashed in Biden’s garage. This is surely less secure than documents locked up in Trump’s office, which has 24hr security, per protocol for ex-Presidents. There is also a reported stash of more than 1,800 boxes of Biden’s Senatorial documents at the University of Delaware.

Secondly, the classified documents found in Biden’s properties date variously from when he was Vice-President and a Senator, which is at least 14 years ago. In Trump’s case, he at least has the potential recourse of claiming that he had declassified all of the documents before taking them (as is within the President’s power to do). At the time the documents were allegedly taken, Biden did not possess that justification. Moreover, Senators, when granted clearance, can only examine classified documents under supervision and not remove classified documents.

Thirdly, the way that the two cases have been handled by the media and the DOJ shows a shocking double standard. The report of the first discovery of unlawfully placed classified documents for Biden came days before the mid-term elections. However, the news of this discovery was only made public in January, two months later. Even then, the reporting was tepid, unlike the fire and brimstone surrounding Trump’s case. What’s more, only one of the two men were raided by the FBI in unprecedented and very public fashion.

But double standards are the usual standards for the Democrats. The current situation aside, Hilary Clinton, during the investigation into her use of an insecure private server to communicate classified information, was pardoned by the then FBI director James Comey, even though he stated explicitly that her emails were probably hacked. Compared to this largess, around the same time, a 22-year-old US Navy sailor, who took photos from inside the nuclear submarine that he served in as keepsakes, was sentenced to a year in prison, six months of house arrest, 100 hours of community service, as well as a fine, for potentially exposing sensitive information.

Trump was accused of collusion with Russia, an allegation that never ceased to be in the legacy media spotlight and plagued his presidency and campaign. Except it has since been shown to be false – a tall tale manufactured by those involved with the Clinton campaign. The same media, swallowing a false story hook, line, and sinker, under-report the various strange links reported between the Clintons and Russia, as well as Biden’s questionable ties with the Chinese and Ukraine governments.

Joe Biden accused Trump of lying on multiple occasions. However, whereas Trump’s lies tend to be exaggerations, Biden has a rich history of spouting outright falsehoods, many about his personal life.

For instance, in 1987, he lied about his performance in law school, saying that he was top half, whereas he was bottom fifth, placing 76th out of 85 students. He falsely claimed that he was appointed to the Naval Academy in 1965. He repeatedly lied about being a tractor-trailer driver. He incorrectly said that he was arrested during the Civil Rights Movement. On the campaign trail, he lied about being arrested as a senator when trying to visit the imprisoned Nelson Mandela in South Africa. He said that there was no Covid vaccine until he became President, whereas he himself was jabbed before his inauguration. Biden even said that his son Beau died in Iraq, whereas Beau sadly died in Bethesda, Maryland, from brain cancer.

But the leftist media, contra the way they jump on every negative story about Trump, are ready to excuse or soften Biden’s lies. The New York Times, for example, wrote indulgently that he merely ‘embellished narratives, sometimes only loosely based on the facts, to weave together his political identity’.

There are much more such examples, whether about election denial or the filibuster. But even the sycophantic and biased media are starting to break ranks, with many White House journalist unhappy with the way they are being stonewalled with boilerplate answers.

Have they finally realised the wisdom behind Emerson’s line, ‘The louder he talked about his honour, the faster we counted our spoons’? Maybe. But the truth is more likely that, behind the veil, the Democrats have decided that the increasingly fading and unpopular Biden is an embarrassing President, and the machinery has been set in motion to pave the way for his removal. One can’t expect that the various institutions, having been minions for one political side for years, would suddenly come around to moral decency.

One must always keep in mind, therefore, Orwell’s warning that, ‘All saints should be judged guilty until proven innocent.’
