It has been barely a few weeks since Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover, but the ABC’s sheltered class are already weighing up whether they will remain on the platform due to ‘bullying’.
Cry me a river.
Conservative and libertarian commentators have been ruthlessly and relentlessly abused, bullied, vilified, defamed, and harassed by the Left on social media for years – with very little interest from the ABC.
Old Twitter allowed organised campaigns by social justice warriors specifically designed to hound advertising companies away from conservative outlets, despite this being a violation of community safety guidelines.
Also in violation were incidents of mass-reporting by Left-wing activists who pretended to be offended by a random Tweet. This sort of bogus ‘offence’ was a favourite tactic by unscrupulous accounts who later congratulated themselves on having journalists banned.
Terrorism against the Free Press was the Left’s creed, and they are furious that Musk has taken their nifty little censorial tool away.
The peasants (aka ordinary citizens) have finally been able to criticise the nonsense posted by MSM and this little bit of push-back has been too much for fragile journalists on the public purse to handle, with talk that they will leave Twitter.
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Sorry, ‘gently tap’.
But all is not what it seems. According to the Daily Mail:
‘Statistics from the ABC show that Twitter is already a dangerous place for the public broadcaster’s journalists, who are seeking help from its “social media wellbeing advisor”.’
Gosh, where were these investigations when Black Lives Matter and Extinction Rebellion fans were sending death threats?
‘The ABC’s annual report reveals that there were 76 “social media safety” incidents at the ABC for the year to June 2022.’
That sounds like a pretty average week for a conservative female commentator but, given that Musk didn’t buy the company until a short time ago, it seems preposterous to blame the statistic for a pre-June figure on him. Shouldn’t they be yelling at the former Left-wing social justice management team?
Their failure is probably why Musk sacked them. Strange that the ABC hasn’t run a story thanking the new Twitter boss for clearing out people who were presumably a bit crap at their jobs.
Media Watch’s Paul Barry is grumpy too, saying:
‘If Musk opens up the floodgates to misinformation, fake news, and hate speech, you’ll expect journalists and media companies to take leave as well.’
Paul, honey, Left-wing journalists and media companies have been ground zero for some of the largest fake news stories in the last five years. On balance, Twitter would be more truthful without them.
The public forum doesn’t need the ABC, rather the ABC needs the eyeballs of the public forum. ABC journalists will fade into irrelevance the moment they stop complaining about their privileged lives on Twitter.
