The new film Amsterdam from David O Russell tells of an almost forgotten moment in American history when, in 1933, a group of fascist businessmen attempted a coup d’etat in the pursuit of unfettered profits. The plot to depose Roosevelt failed when chosen replacement and hero of the war veterans General Gil Dillenbeck, played by Robert De Niro, proved to be an incorruptible defender of democracy. The protagonists were either arrested or they disappeared into obscurity.
The film ably demonstrates how fragile our democracy is and how close the world came to global totalitarianism. Had America joined the fascist ranks in 1933 the war in Europe and the Far East may likely have been lost and the Swastika could have been flying over Canberra.
Such is the fickle fate of history and our good fortune that in Australia we live in a thriving democracy. However, democracy is as delicate as a snowflake and such Amsterdam moments are recursive throughout history.
Indeed such a moment has passed almost unnoticed in Atlanta Georgia last month when the Centre of Disease Control (CDC) approved Covid and Influenza vaccinations as inclusions in the Childhood Immunisation Schedule. Although this doesn’t automatically mean that all states will necessarily adopt this policy, the reality is that the states rarely go against CDC recommendations.
There are two dire consequences of this action by the CDC for American citizens.
First, any child who doesn’t receive a vaccination in a state that has implemented the recommendation may be barred from receiving a public education.
Second, the right to litigation for any injury received from these vaccinations (Influenza and Covid) becomes null and void because in the USA legislation manufacturers are indemnified if that vaccination is part of the childhood vaccination program. Should a child receive a vaccine injury, then the cost and burden of raising that injured child falls entirely upon the parents with no rights to legal redress.
Pfizer and Moderna will also be automatically and permanently indemnified against adult vaccine injury as a result of this action by the CDC. Currently, they are protected by the Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA), which is due to expire early next year. As a result of this decision by the CDC they become permanently untouchable in the USA.
Many parents will face the invidious dilemma of vaccinating their children against a disease that poses them virtually no risk in order to get access to an education, whilst at the same time knowing the very real albeit small risk that should their child become injured from the vaccine, their legal rights to compensation from the pharmaceutical companies are forfeit.
This can only be described as medical tyranny and the world now faces a new threat that a wave of medical fascism arising in the USA may sweep the globe.
The USA is a massive global influencer. Just as in the movie this fateful event has passed almost unnoticed, orchestrated by powerful commercial interests in their pursuit of profits. Whilst the US has a government no-fault vaccine injury compensation scheme, which has paid out $4.9 billion since it was established in 1986, Australia has a temporary 2-year scheme scheduled to end sometime in the next 12 months.
According to AusVaxSafety, 44.2 per cent of Australians who received a Covid vaccination and completed a safety survey experienced at least 1 adverse event. Similarly for every 110 vaccines delivered there was a reaction necessitating a medical intervention, either with a GP or a visit to a hospital emergency department. Although many of these adverse events are almost certainly mild, it is nonetheless a very large number and there is no telling how many of these will require assistance into the future.
It is the duty of Australian government to protect the interests of its citizens against threat from all kinds. Likewise, it is the duty of Australian government to provide its citizens the right to compensation for vaccine injury, just as it is their right to compensation for injury from any source.
Australia may be about to face its own Amsterdam moment and it needs its Generals to stand tall.
