Flat White

The merchants of gender activism

Nietzsche wrote in his notebooks, reflecting on the decay of civilisation that his acute senses have registered, that, ‘We are no longer accumulating. We are squandering the capital of our forebears, even in our way of knowing.’

If only he were alive now. Almost a quarter of the way into the 21st Century, with knowledge being at the most accessible it’s ever been in the course of human history, some have adamantly decided that the human species should no longer be allowed to know or learn the most basic of facts of life, such as what a woman is.

There have been so many absurd examples of this deliberate dumbing-down of society, the consequences of which range from the comical to the tragic. On the one hand, you have America’s First Lady Jill Biden awarding a Women of Courage award to a biological man on International Women’s Day. On the other, there are biological men being placed into women’s prisons because they identity as female and yet they go on to rape and impregnate female inmates.

One might wonder where the notion of forgetting what a woman is comes from… A recent case at the University of Pittsburgh might shed light on this confusion.

A champion female swimmer, Riley Gaines, recently gave a talk at the University of Pittsburgh on the topic of biological males in women’s sports. This comes after transgender swimmer Lia Thomas made headlines by breaking multiple female records despite formally being considered a mid-range swimmer as a man. Gaines has been one of the loudest critics of Thomas being allowed in the women’s competition.

A senior lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh, appeared to reject the idea that there are fundamental physical differences between men and women. Gaines, who was present, asked him, ‘If you were to dig up two humans 100 years from now, both a man and a woman, would you be able to tell the difference strictly off of bones?’

The lecturer replied, ‘No’, prompting laughter and groans from the audience.

Gaines has, on another recent occasion, given an emotional testimony of her experience of being forced to share a change room with an intact biological man, and being confronted with his ‘different’ genitalia. The point being that there are observable, actual, physical differences between the sexes.

It seems there are plenty of ‘experts’, including those within the media, politics, and university campuses, that have forgotten what most seven-year-olds know: that boys and girls are different ‘downstairs’, to put it politely.

I happen to have a PhD also, but I do not need my PhD to know that by examining human bones there are obvious anatomical differences between the sexes, particularly in the pelvic region. The discipline of genetics cements the fact that despite hormone or surgical treatments, every cell in the bodies of transgender females, with the exception of some sperms, have a Y chromosome, which females do not have, except in extremely rare cases where the Y chromosome is shut down.

What seems clear is that there are some whose scientific training has been marinated in activism, and they are passing this ‘knowledge’ onto the next generation of students. The results are plain to see. On April 6, Gaines was assailed by a mob of trans-rights protesters, who abused her verbally and physically, forcing her to barricade herself for three hours at San Francisco State University where she was giving a speech about protecting women’s sports.

‘You crying! You f—ing crying bitch — f–k you!’ screamed one member of the group that ambushed Gaines.

‘Bye bitch! F–k you,’ another added. Behind them, ‘Trans Lives Matter’ signs are visible while the ‘trans women are women’ chant is repeated endlessly.

It seems only yesterday that the #MeToo movement was all the rage, but suddenly a young female swimmer can be assaulted by a mob, including biological men, for advocating women’s spaces. The same poisonous vitriol is aimed at famous women such as JK Rowling.

But the damage is not only on gullible students, but entire institutions and professions have also been swayed by aggressive tactics of the trans-activist movement. The wholly bizarre and anti-science push by activists to stop anthropologists and archaeologists assigning sex to human remains has been going on for a while. What is more concerning is that this push to forget the most basic of facts extends even to the medical disciplineLegislation is being pushed by Democratic state senators in Pennsylvania to remove sex designation on birth certificates, something supported by the American Medical Association since 2021.

Real-world consequences are being felt as a result of this ideology. In 2019, a nurse treating a transgender man with abdominal pain did not realise that she was treating a case of pregnancy, as the biological female was labelled as a man in the relevant documentations. Sadly, the baby was stillborn.

There has been an explosion in the number of children, especially girls, identifying as transgender in recent years, with record number of adolescents undergoing gender-affirming chest surgery. Research has shown that there is a serious possibility that we could be witnessing a social contagion, given the persistent push by teachers and schools, are a leading cause of this highly unusual phenomenon.

2020 study found that of 372 transgender youths had serious accompanying mental health issues, yet schools are quick to validate children or steer them onto an express course toward gender affirmation, despite studies showing that some 80 per cent of dysphoric children will grow out of their dysphoric phase without any need of hormone or surgical interventions.

And because this is America, things happening there will inevitably make their way across the pond. There are some groups of parents that have taken a stand against the over-saturation of ‘gender culture’ within the education system. Parents are even beginning to file lawsuits against schools for so-called secret transition policies. Our children are too precious for adults to ignore the potentially serious harms being done. Radical ideology should always be publicly challenged and, if necessary, those found to be teaching ideologies that endanger children should be removed from the educational system and positions of power.
